Thugs kill APC leader, set corpse ablaze in Rivers; Blind man and robbers steal tyres worth N20m

The rate of political killings in Rivers State continues to rise as rival groups murder their opponents.
Yesterday, political thugs in Buguma, Rivers State, beat a popular APC leader Ofingite Amachree to pulp before setting him ablaze. The graphic photo is shared here.
Later, yesterday, the ‘mass executions’ continued and another middle-aged man, popularly known as Kpom-Kpom was brutally murdered and set on fire by another set of political thugs.
The tension, reportedly, is high in Rivers State and nothing has been done to curb it.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command busted a criminal group who reportedly stole tyres valued at N20 million. PUNCH reports that the suspects include a 61-year-old blind man, Monday Iruanya. Others were identified as John Michael, Charles Chinoso and James Francis.
The goods were stolen from a warehouse in Apapa and were being transported to Sagamu, but they were intercepted by the police at Ijebu-Ode who had trailed them from Lagos.
On how they succeeded in carting away with the goods, PUNCH said that one of the suspects, Michael, who acted as the owner of the goods, got the blind Iruanya to get him a waybill so as to avoid being questioned of the ownership of the goods. He was promised N100,000 from the proceeds.

“My friend, Michael, came to me that he needed a waybill. I got it at Tincan in Apapa and he promised to give me N100,000 to treat my eyes,” Iruanya said, adding that he had previously been arrested for a different crime and served time at the Kirikiri Prisons in 2010.
“He and I were at Sagamu waiting for the truck to arrive when the police arrested us,” he continued, adding, “I did not know the content of the truck and whether the items were stolen.”
Other suspects, Francis the driver, and Chinonso the conductor, were promised N150,000 each to drive the goods to Sagamu.
The suspects are set to be charged to court.
