The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has suspended the Village Head of Goma in Gimi District of Danga Local Government Area, Alhaji Danladi Ibrahim, over a drug-related offence. Agency takes over hotel, mansion, shopping mall Property believed to belong to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki was at the weekend confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kaduna. Dasuki, NSA to former President Goodluck Jonathan, is at the centre of a massive investigation into the alleged misapplication of about ₦NaN billion meant for the procurement of arms. A panel, which investigated the way the money was spent, indicted Dasuki and others. The EFCC moved in. Dasuki has been arraigned in court. It was learnt that the property of others linked with the scandal were also confiscated by the anti-graft agency in Kaduna. Instead of running away from the potential fire disaster of a petroleum truck that had spilled its contents (on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway) some Nigerians made the decision to risk their lives to fetch dripping fuel from the truck. Troops of 153 task force base, on Thursday, at old Marte, continued chase of Boko Haram terrorists after they carried out an unsuccessful attack at about 5:50pm on Wednesday. During the operation, troops killed 5 additional fighters. The casualty on the part of the Boko Haram sect now stands at 21. Equipment recovered are 1 MC-H3 tube panhand aml 90 gun with registration number 0182; 1 36milimeter handset grenade; 7 pieces of 60milemeter bodies and 3 AK47 rifles. Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has directed all officers of the Nigerian Army, yet to declare their assets to do so immediately. According to army spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the army chief gave the directive on Wednesday during a conference with principal staff officers and directors serving at the army headquarters. Recall that Gen Buratai declared his asset after his appointment as Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force in May 2015 and also on his appointment as Chief of Army Staff in July 2015. Copies of both are with the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finalized plans to file fresh criminal charges against Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo and a former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Patrick Akpobolokemi. A statement on Wednesday by the spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren said they will be charged over an alleged scam in the acquisition of a property worth N11.8 billion Uwujaren said the property: “Mieka Dive Institute, a sprawling expanse, purportedly acquired by NIMASA for the take-off of the Nigerian Maritime University, was approved for an outright purchase by the past administration in the sum of N13, 072,564,822.00 in which a sum of N11, 765, 308, 339.80 had been paid through NIMASA.” He explained that EFCC investigations showed that the fund was fraudulently claimed through an alleged false presentation of a Certificate of Customary Right of Occupancy of the property and an alleged

A wanted Boko Haram kingpin, Jarasu Shira, was arrested yesterday morning in Damboa, Borno State, Daily Trust learnt. The suspect, who also goes by the alias Jarido, was arrested at a motor park at about 8.30am along with 10 other suspected members of the group who escorted him to Damboa to board a vehicle to Biu. The suspected terrorists were arrested by members of the vigilante popularly known as Civilian JTF. The JTF provide support to the Nigeria military battling the militant group in the north-east. Shira is said to be number one on a new list of wanted men by the Nigeria military. “He was disguised in a cowboy outfit to escape arrest but the vigilance of the civilian JTF paid off, Daily Trust further gathered. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed 19 charges at the High Court of Zamfara State against serving senator(representing Zamfara West Senatorial District) and former governor Sani Yerima. Yerima, who left office as governor 2007,is set to face trial for alleged mismanagement of N1billion loan meant for the repair of Gusau Dam in 2006. Yerima will be tried along with three others — Alhaji Hashim A. Dikko, Development Management Limited and HAD Nigeria Limited. According to ICPC, about N425, 491,736.75 of the N1billion was allegedly diverted to other purposes, including assistance to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), furniture allowance, consultancy fee, Ramadan feeding, Hajj and purchase of cars. John Tsoho, justice of the federal high court, Abuja, has ordered that Nnamdi Kanu be remanded in Kuje prison pending his trial for treason. Tsoho, the judge, gave the order after listening to Mohammed Diri, counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), and Chuks Muoma (SAN), counsel to Kanu. Muoma had argued that the accused person be remanded in prison custody away from the cell of the DSS. He said that his client had been kept incommunicado in the custody of the DSS for three months. He therefore asked the court to send the accused person to prison so that his family could have access to him. Diri, however, prayed the court to keep Kanu in the custody of the DSS for security reasons. But the judge ruled that the defendant be kept in the custody of the Nigeria Prison Service, Kuje. Dailytrust has it that two of the nation’s refineries were shut down by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) due to pipeline vandalism by the Niger Delta militants last week. The refineries, with a combined capacity of 235,000 barrels per day, resumed production in December and January respectively after long maintenance work. Sources at the refineries said the work stopped on Sunday. Spokesperson of the corporation, Mr Ohi Alegbe, confirmed the shutdown of the refineries which he said was to avoid any fire incident along the pipelines. He said the corporation shut-in the pipelines both for gas and crude oil along the affected areas to avoid further damage to the two refineries. He said the NNPC will continue to monitor the progress of the refineries and the Nigeria Gas Company and update the public at the appropriate time. The Nigerian Air Forces yesterday stated that its 2016 recruitment is targeted at doubling the number of fresh intakes in its previous enlistments. A statement by Air Force spokesman Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa said The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, made the disclosure recently in Enugu when he went to the state of facilities at the International Helicopter Flying School (IHFS) and 95 Helicopter Combat Training School (95 HCTG) among other NAF establishments in the state. Famuyiwa said “the projection for 2016 is to recruit about 2,100 personnel.”  The Air force statement also said a 30-man BMATT team had since arrived Nigeria on 3 January 2016 to train the first batch of NAF Regiment personnel, comprising ‘4 officers and 100 airmen’ at the Ground Training Centre, Kaduna. Governor can’t pay salary, begins building N4.6bn bridge 7 days to end of tenure The Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada, on Tuesday, explained the reason behind the inability of his administration to pay its workers, saying government had been depending on overdraft and other facilities from banks to meet its obligations to the workers. The governor said it became difficult for government to continue paying the salaries when the banks stopped granting it the facilities. Wada said this in Lokoja, the state capital, during the official inauguration ceremony of the construction of N4.6 billion fly-over bridges at the Ganaja junction in the town. According to the governor, government had met the organised labour leaders over the non-payment of the workers’ salaries, blaming the situation on the dwindling allocation of the collective funds coming to the state from the Federation Account.

The Natin has it that Mn investor got N32 billion for vessels, which he never delivered, a minister said yesterday. Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi said the unnamed investor fled after collecting the cash during the Dr. Goodluck  Jonathan administration. The money was paid from the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF), which indigenous ship owners last month urged Amaechi and Acting Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Director-General  Haruna Baba Jauro to speak on. The CVFF was created by the Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act, 2003 to promote ship acquisition by supporting ship owners. Section 42, Part VIII of Section 44 of the Act empowers NIMASA to collect and administer the fund, under guidelines by the Minister of Transport, after approval by the National Assembly. The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade, is dead, aged 101. According to Punch, the monarch died in his sleep at about 7.30pm on Tuesday in his palace in the Monatan area of Ibadan. It was gathered that palace guards immediately summoned a son of the deceased, Prof. Femi Lana, who also informed some Ibadan high chiefs about his father’s demise. Reports say the monarch’s corpse had been deposited at the morgue of an unnamed hospital in Ibadan. Oba Odugade, who was born on April 14, 1914, became the Olubadan in July 2007. In 1963, he attended the epoch-making Commonwealth Conference in London. He also became the country’s Minister of State for Labour. In 1964, he led the Nigerian Parliamentary delegation to the London Constitutional Conference to restructure the then British colonies of Rhodesia and Nyasaland now known as Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
